Ajolote/Axolotl - Surface pattern

Surface pattern design for a line of back-to-school pencil cases in Mexico City.

The axolotl is an emblematic animal from Mexico, since it lives in our largest and most iconic canal, Xochimilco. It's such a representative amphibian, that it's even on our $50 peso bill. Imagine!

I looked up references of the ajolote (axolotl), sketched out my design on Procreate, vectorized it on Illustrator and turned my characters into a seamless pattern. Afterwards, I selected 4 color palettes for a package of four pencil cases. After they were made, I took photos of them for Mercado Libre.

I loved working on this pattern since it's an animal from my hometown and I know many of us love these adorable creatures. Enjoy!
