DELHI WAR CEMETERY
The Delhi War Cemetery, also referred to as the Delhi Commonwealth War Graves Cemetery, is located in New Delhi, India, and serves as a memorial dedicated to the soldiers who lost their lives during World War II. It is under the care and maintenance of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC), an organization responsible for preserving war graves and memorials worldwide.
Situated in the Delhi Cantonment area, close to the Delhi Cantonment railway station, the cemetery contains the graves of 1,022 Commonwealth servicemen who perished during World War II. These individuals hailed from countries such as the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and other Commonwealth nations.
The cemetery is characterized by its well-manicured lawns and rows of white gravestones, each bearing inscriptions of the fallen soldiers' names, ranks, and regiments. The CWGC diligently ensures the cemetery's upkeep, providing a serene and respectful space for remembrance and homage to those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
