The Sun Life Financial Waterloo Busker Carnival

This is the preliminary sketch for the 26th annual Sun Life Financial Waterloo Busker Carnival poster and t-shirt. I have created art for this festival for more than ten years and it is one of my favourite assignments. I surround myself with images of buskers and start scribbling.
This is the refined sketch I sent to the client for approval. I sketch on tracing paper with felt tip pen and keep tracing over as I make adjustments.
The client made a few minor changes to my rough and now I am good to go to final art.
The final art is a linocut print, scanned and coloured in Photoshop. There are photos of my technique on the blog section of my website. This is one version I rejected as too saturated.  I used to hand colour my prints with magic markers and am eternally grateful for Photoshop. It is so easy to mess around with different colour schemes and I no longer experience those chemical headaches!
And another colour arrangement I decided against...
...and another. It's fun to try on different colour breaks!
Finally I made a decision. This is the art that will appear on t-shirts, banners and other promotional material at the Waterloo Busker Carnival at the end of August. It's one of the biggest and best in North America!
