Every year in the city of Coachella, a local organization named "Raices Culturas" hosts an annual marathon during the Day of the Dead, where runners are welcomed to participate and celebrate Mexican culture and this important holiday. They allow local artist to participate and involve themselves in the community by creating art or selling art to residents. I participated for the first time in 2021 and painted a sculptured skull that they have for their volunteers to use as they please.

I used the theme of "Alebrijes" for my skull because it is an important part of the Day of the Dead holiday and used neon colors as well as characters that popularized the Holiday, Dante and Pepita from the Disney movie "Coco". It's a film I hold dear and near in my heart as it reminds me of my own relatives that have passed and brings me to peace of their passing.

This project was presented in the Day of the Dead Event hosted at Sunnylands in Rancho Mirage.
