BUDDHISM

Theravada Buddhism obliges every monk to get out of bed every day at 4 a.m. to pray. At dawn they collect offerings from the faithful who want to accumulate karma and their only meal is before 12 noon. The rest of the time is devoted to study, meditation and temple chores.

The orange or saffron robe as a sacred garment symbolizes a connection to perception, the highest degree, to enlightenment or the search for knowledge.

It is said that every Thai Buddhist man should become a monk at least once in his life.
