The 21st century has been dominated by the refashioning of the world’s most unlikeliest of locations into club spaces. Cathedrals in Liverpool, public toilets in London and zoos in Ibiza, and now Lancaster has its own unique pop up event space – a former prison.
 
During our research we discovered that Lancaster Prison’s C-Wing cell block is a true panopticon built in 1821 by Joseph Gandy. As the panopticon design was conceived as a way of keeping all inmates under constant watch, the idea of using an ‘eye’ emerged.
 
The poster concept; ‘contraband’ came from our conversations about how the events seemed to be smuggling the excitement and energy of music into a repressive space.
