Fungi Biocomposite

Material growth

The development of this biocomposite was the graduate project for the bachelor degree in Industrial Design for the UANL. It involves investigation, experimentation and conceptual aplication of the material. The experiments were developed at the Institute of Biotechnology of the UANL for over a year.

The biocomposite project came from the idea of using living organisms to create a 100% sustainable material. It is conformed by a mix of fungi hiphae and agroindustrial wastes.

The final delivery consists in the final phisycal material sample, its application in a biodegradable planting pot, a design booklet and the biotechnology scientific document.

Materals and tools.
Fungi growth in liquid media.
Cultivation in molds.
The physical characteristics of the final material are resistance to impact, thermal and acoustic insulation.
Sketches.
It was chosen a degradable planting pot for the aplication of the material due to its degradable properties. It has a base made of wicker to handle the pot easier.
