Hatsune Miku Music Catalog

Project Title: Hatsune Miku Music Catalog

Project Description: Design a catalog for a "musical legend." Your choice could be a performer/musician, band/group, composer, or conductor. Then pick a design movement from the mid 19th century through the 1970s. Make sure your musical choice and movement relate somehow—for example, Elton John and Art Nouveau. Your catalog can be any size or shape as long as there is a valid reason for your decision. You must design a minimum of 5 spreads plus cover, spine, endpapers, & title page.

Musician: Hatsune Miku (Vocaloid)

Design Style: Brutalism

Approach: Hatsune Miku is notable for being "the original Vocaloid," & has thousands of songs credited under her name. As a vocaloid, she is not a single person, but a singing voice synthesizer software product, so her software rights can be bought & used by a multitude of people. However, the vocaloid itself usually has a face mascot, Hatsune Miku having her iconic long dual pigtails, & blue, pink, and black color palette. This project utilizes a basic color scheme, pulled directly from its source, with binary code dispersed throughout as a design feature as a reference to her digital nature. The design itself is inspired by the brutalism design movement, using both English & Japanese as the main two languages her software sings in. The book itself is small & is designed to be hypothetically sold with a DVD, including the definition of what a vocaloid is for those who might not know what her status as a vocaloid means.
