Narrative Tableau - Self Portraits

The narrative project was intended to express a story, while including a character and props. When thinking of things to narrate I initially thought of mental health awareness, as I have personally lost a sister to suicide and have since struggled with my own mental health. After shooting, I also chose to focus on body image as it can and is one of many reasons for metal struggles. The main issue with this topic was my own insecurities and being able to express myself in front of the camera and the intention of sharing images.
This shot was near the end of my shoot, which was chosen due to the emotional impression. It took a while to get comfortable in front of the camera to be able to incorporate the distress I wanted to portray. I actually let out a quite scream to be able to get the right facial expression. I also incorporated the "tears", which were liquid sparkle eye shadow. All of these little details, lead to the creation of something much more meaningful.
My second shot took a lot of internal debating to include as a final image, because it is a very vulnerable and intimate picture of my self. I initially had the idea from a similar picture of a model in underwear tightening string around her waist. I chose to use rope instead to further symbolize the restraints our own personal views on body image can have on ourselves. When I first shot I was nervous and left my shirt down, but after seeing the results I decided to tuck my tank top and show my stomach. This piece was more than a photo to me it was a personal milestone.
