Balboa Park Icons
For my project, I wanted to take a look at local areas and see if there was anything I could resolve. I thought of tourist locations like Seaport Village or the San Diego Zoo but Seaport is constantly changing, with small businesses closing down often and our zoo's map was already detailed enough. I then took a look at Balboa Park. I looked at maps for Balboa and realized the museum icons were pretty bland. They don't show off the beautiful architecture of each museum. From a logical stance it makes sense, it would be kind of distracting on a map but if you were to look at a closeup of a digital map, an icon displaying the individual front faces of each building would be pretty nice. I tried so many versions through sketching, procreate and illustrator with and without color but settled on plain black outlines. While they are just outlines, I wanted them to feel timeless and unified but also show how each building stands out on their own.
