Conceptual illustrations based on Italo Calvino's "The Love of the Three Pomegranates" tale from his book "Italian Folktales". The story wasn't strictly followed, but instead it was a starting point for a sequence of 5 pieces that pictures the cicle of transformation of a pomegranate to a boy.
I used ink on paper to make each drawing and stencils to colour them separately, only using black paint so I could work on the colours in Photoshop, creating different variations easily. You can see below the drawing, stencil and colour shape from the first piece and an alternative version of the second one.
