Samuel Rose's profile

Historic Northside New Albany Logo Concepts

I was commissioned to design a logo for a new district in the city of New Albany, MS. Drawing inspiration from local heritage, elements such as the Cleveland church (Ver 1), railroad (Ver 2), and William Faulkner (Ver 3) were incorporated into the concepts. Ultimately, Ver 2 was unanimously chosen by my client for its simplicity and seamless integration with existing street signs.
Version 1 showcases the iconic bell tower of the historic Cleveland church. Drawing inspiration from a photo reference, I meticulously traced its silhouette in Illustrator, ensuring harmony with the brick's hue. Opting for a brown circle, a prevalent color in local signage in our state, maintains cohesion while the inclusion of red from the tower ensures its distinctive presence.
The client's choice of Version 2 resonated with the desired aesthetic of a charming small-town ambiance. By incorporating the imagery of train tracks, symbolic of the town's rich history and ongoing economic activity, the design achieves a cohesive narrative that captivates both residents and visitors alike. Its nostalgic appeal and timeless charm promise to endure as a beloved landmark in the community for years to come.
Version 3 of my project features a distinct departure in aesthetics. Inspired by modern-retro motifs, I infused my personal creative touch. Utilizing an AI-generated image of William Faulkner's portrait, I extracted its color palette to imbue the entire sign with a distinctive flair, setting it apart from the previous iterations. The chosen font exudes a playful vibe without compromising readability.
