Design for Identity
by Samantha Marielle Lampano
This project is not only an advertisement for York University's Design program, but also helps students in different ways. This ad campaign is about sending out postcards with scented candles as a premier gift. It inspires students by using a QR code that links to student work, helps them to focus on studying with scented candles, and uses humour to brighten their mood. To convey the program's design philosophy of "less is more," I limited the color palette and used simple illustrations in my designs. The design is effective in attracting the target audience, grade 11 and 12 high school students, because of the use of humor and Gen Z slang such as saying something is "fire" or "lit". I chose the theme of fire and designers for the jokes as many Gen Z kids enjoy making jokes about lighting things on fire.
