Animated series "Sovereignty and Food Security"

In order to achieve food sovereignty in Cuba, it will be necessary to reduce the imports of food and supplies, as well as strengthen local food systems. In addition, it will be essential to decrease the amount of lost or wasted food and ensure the safety and quality of the consumed food, through a strong food and nutritional education for the population.

The use of endogenous products, such as yucca, is key to achieving food sovereignty in Cuba as it reduces dependence on food imports. Cassava is a traditional and versatile crop that adapts well to the climate and soil, making it a nutritious, cost-effective and easily processable alternative for consumption in various forms.

A local agri-food system includes people, families, schools, media, institutions, and activities related to food production and procurement. Its accelerated transformation will improve production, nutrition, the environment, and quality of life in municipalities.

The Food Sovereignty and Food and Nutritional Security Law establishes the legal framework to achieve food sovereignty in Cuba and strengthen food and nutritional security, and regulates the organization of local sovereign and sustainable food systems.
