Going into detail, I chose this portrait of Cam Newton I completed during high school. This is a rather large piece at 20 by 30 in. Taking roughly 25 hours in total to complete. It was the first project that introduced me to using grids to effectively convey a subject. It taught me patience and attention to detail as I worked along the piece, keeping myself accountable in effectively conveying realistic value.

We measured out the whole sheet of paper, and then sketched out the main figure. From there we used an array of different patterns, line weights, and contrast to help create a realistic sense of scale and value. This was a painstaking process, in which I went through each one inch box by one inch box, creating a plethora of patterns throughout. All of these small details help build the whole image. Without them, the piece would fall flat.
