Project: Billboard Design
I was tasked with designing a billboard that would showcase my Adobe Photoshop skills, specifically my ability to merge two images and apply double exposure techniques. With this in mind, I crafted a composition that was perfectly suited to the billboard's location.
Process:
To kick off my design process, I generated two distinct ideas and then got specific feedback in order to decide on which concept to pursue. Ultimately, I landed on a powerful concept centered around raising awareness of mental health issues, highlighting common signs of different types of mental illnesses, and effectively conveying what these indicators might look like. Given the timeliness and importance of this topic, particularly in light of the pandemic, I was deeply committed to creating a billboard that would truly resonate with viewers.
With my main idea in hand, I then proceeded to create a concept map in order to expand upon and refine my approach, generating new ideas and possibilities. I then delved into the development of a color palette that emphasized textures, possible fonts, images, and inspiring elements, all geared towards my final design. To further boost the effectiveness of the billboard, I conducted research to identify compelling facts and statistics about mental health that I could incorporate into the design.
Finally, I brought my refined ideas into Adobe Photoshop, fine-tuning my design through a series of critiques and tweaks until arriving at my finished product.

Why I chose this project:
Through this project, I gained a newfound appreciation for the importance of carefully considering both the composition and messaging of a billboard, and how they work together to create a meaningful impact on the intended audience. The attention to detail proved valuable in creating a truly compelling and effective final design.
Concept Map
My mental health concept map explored causes, stakeholders, and available resources, helping me better engage with my topic and determine how best to communicate it to my intended audience.
Mood Board
My mood board helped organize my color schemes, images, typography, textures, and layout inspiration for the billboard, guiding how I wanted the audience to interact with my work.
Process Image
In the middle of my process, I received feedback from my peers to move and enlarge my images for emphasis, and stagger them for improved composition movement. They also suggested revising the wording of a fact for greater dramatic effect.
