The story goes that Charles Dickens walked through this graveyard, stumbled accross a headstone which read, "Here lies Ebenezer Scrooge, a mean man." this event apparently inspired Dickens to write his famous novel, "A Christmas Carol". However, the stone was quite worn and actually read, "Ebeneezer Scrooge, a meal man." Poor Ebeneezer was a humble farmer.
