Not Just A Face In The Crowd - Art Foundation FMP

Where's Wally? I know. Most of us do. After spending too much of my childhood flicking through the colourful pages of that picture book, I am now fully confident of his whereabouts. However, giving Wally some privacy, looking around him, there are so many other personalities unexplored. The characters that surround the well-travelled protagonist and his little dog are often more interesting and unusual. Taking this idea out of the pages of a children's book, look around. What do we know about the people we pass everyday? Where have they been? What are they talking about? Is that man aware his hair looks ridiculous? I wanted my final project for my Art Foundation to explore this idea. By creating a crowd scene and then pulling certain individuals from it, I aimed to give the viewer a new perspective of certain characters, and highlight the possibilities of the people that surround us.
The entire piece is very large (A0) and required a lot of detailed pen work. Below are some examples of the characters pulled out from the large crowd and explored slightly further, the text here is screen printed and the image hand drawn.
