I grew up playing card games with my grandparents, and I became fascinated with the back patterns and face card designs on our old Bicycle cards. I created a new series of cards starting with my favorite (Sasquatch) as the King of Clubs, and quickly incorporated other cryptids - Nessie, Mothman, and the Kraken's tentacles.
The cryptids playing card designs are a nod to the art nouveau style, and the color palette was selected for its feeling of mystery and science fiction.
