Red Fort "Blessed Fort" (Qila-i-Mubārak)

Red Fort "Blessed Fort" (Qila-i-Mubārak)
Red Fort Complex was built as the palace fort of Shahjahanabad, the new capital of the fifth Mughal Emperor, Shah Jahan. It is adjacent to the older fort, Salimgarh, which was built in 1546 by Islam Shah Suri. Together, they make up the Red Fort Complex. "Stream of Paradise" (Nahr-i-Behisht) is the continuous water channel that connects the private apartments. Under Shah Jahan, the Red Fort represented the pinnacle of Mughal creativity. A blend of Persian, Timurid and Hindu traditions is evident in each pavilion of the palace, which is based on Islamic prototypes. Later buildings and gardens in Rajasthan, Delhi, Agra and further afield were strongly influenced by the innovative planning and architectural style of the Red Fort, including its garden design.
