The American Civil War is remembered as a tragic event of American history. Where families were left in separation, their source of communication was through writing letters. Centering on the famous letter by Major Sullivan Ballou, In the Distance explores the concept of love and separation. Marching into a battlefield is not an easy thing. They must risk their lives by leaving their loving families behind. The book is crafted in a dos a dos style to explore the central concept of separation. While families can write to each other about their love and worries, they can never be tied back.
