Alice in Wonderland-Reimagined
A Mad Tea-Party
This is a personal project in which I redraw some of the most iconic scenes from Alice in Wonderland, the 1865 novel written by Lewis Carrol.

As I grew up seeing many art recreations based on the Alice series, I want to learn to use my own style and explore more skills to make better fantasy and surreal art.

Apart from drawing the tea party scene, I also expand the story of March Hare.
(in my new setting March Hare is female, as to create more contrast with Mad Hatter)
In the original novel, March Hare's effort was not appreciated because Mad Hatter thinks she used the wrong butter. However she insisted twice that it was the best butter.
March Hare:
Her hobby is to bake vintage cakes and is responsible for preparing food for the tea-party. She is so proud of her creations, and there is never any complaint about her cakes from the guests.
After all, you don't want to mess with someone holding a knife at a tea-party.

Mad Hatter:
He is not only good at making hats, he is also good at making his creations mysterious. There are times when his customers find hidden compartments with notes and objects. When he is questioned about them, they are left with Hatter's iconic response: tipping his hat while walking away silently.

The pool of Alice-inspired works is like a rabbit hole to me. The same material in the hands of different artists can be transformed into entirely different results.

To study from such large number of references, I did a rough categorisation on the visual styles of these Alice artworks.  (posted on my Instagram @@wwf_yandy)

I planned to make this a long-term art project. There will be more new Alice illustrations in upcoming projects.

Thank you !
