BLACK BRICK PROJECT
Competition: ”Casa Cuib” - 2022 edition

Type: Passive House

Surface: 100 sqm (50 + 50)

Structure: Timber-frame, ventilated facades with black brick cladding

Architect: Călin Flavian Catargiu
For solar energy inputs, in the cold season the south-facing facade has large openings.

For protection against overheating in the hot season, the house has shading factors such as eaves, balcony and external blinds.

For maximum input of solar energy, the photovoltaic panels are placed on the southern slope of the roof.

To break the thermal bridges in the balcony area, the proposal provides for an independent metal structure. Thus, the thermal insulation of the facade will not be interrupted by the presence of the balcony.
The main entrance is from the north area and we find small openings on this facade, to reduce heat loss.
Heating and cooling are provided by means of an air-water heat pump.

Ventilation is provided by means of a centralized ventilation system with heat and humidity recovery.

The carpentry is made of wood clad with aluminum, mounted on pre-frames. The windows have three sheets of glass separated by thermal spacers.

Notice the sun position during a year.
In the cold season, the sun is lower, allowing the light to heat the exposed spaces, while in the hot season, the sun is higher, and the spaces exposed to the south area will be shaded, thus preventing the overheating phenomenon.
The ceiling vent grills extract stale air from rooms such as the kitchen and bathrooms and introduce fresh air into spaces such as the living room and bedrooms.
The interior doors have ventilation grills at the bottom to allow air to circulate from the supply areas to the exhaust areas.
