Remote Learning Hubs: A 2050 Digital Campus

What will the future of learning look like? What role will technology play in this future?

My 2050 envisioned future is one where online learning allows for quality education to be available for all. However, many remote communities do not have the infrastructure, i.e reliable network, computer labs and affordable energy to support their learning. Furthermore, online learning creates a disconnection between remote and on-campus students, adding to the sense of isolation among remote students.

In designing a digital campus for the future, my team and I discussed on a space where the physical (orange) and digital (blue) worlds could co-exist. This space could be a place of learning, teaching and socialising among the community. QUT's Remote Hubs will be built in various national and international locations, giving remote students the infrastructure and technology to support their online learning.

Moreover, these Hubs act as bridges between different locations, connecting people on a global scale. In this space students, business men, community leaders, teacher etc. can collaborate with each other to better their communities. Through this digital space the community can build partnerships, to improve local business, infrastructure and advance innovation.

The future of learning is on a global scale, with students and teachers all over the world, the digital campus and remote hubs connect them all. However, to achieve this dream the right infrastructure and technology will need to be in place, to support this dream.
