Art residency in Alanya 2022

23.08.2022/Alanya
HONEYMOON is an exhibition of four artists Ianita Voit, Maria Michi, Yulia Zhivichina, and Tanya Bashlakova following a chamber art residency in Alanya.
Bright original site-specific works in painting and graphic techniques of the exhibition "HONEYMOON" invite you to follow the artists through one of the four (honeymoon - crisis - recovery - adaptation) stages of cultural adaptation to the new country according to the theory of Kalervo Oberg - honeymoon.  In their artistic practices, the authors explore the phenomenon of the influence of other cultures on the Turkish one and the role of tourism in this process, the aged labor of local craftswomen and the everyday life of banana plantations, archaic craft practices and folklore. The artists ask themselves questions: how can we redefine locality, what role do social processes play in shaping the cultural landscape, and who, in fact, is involved in the socio-cultural design of local spaces?  But all these themes can only be picked up by thoughtful immersion in the picturesque messages; when you come to the exhibition, you first simply get into the visual honeymoon in Alanya.
This residence in a difficult period of mass migration became for the four artists a territory of security, care and detachment, a shared story about the relationship between man and place, about the relationship with the new country, its traditions and way of life, about love, rejection, search, acceptance, lostness and love again. It would seem that this story is local and site-specific, but it also touches on an important theme for thousands of people in today's mobile world - the search for your rhythms, your inspiration, your home in a foreign and completely new environment and relationships with it. Thanks to curators @art_makes_sense @finkelstein_art @eva2979.
