The Tongue-Cut Sparrow Children's Book Illustration

Project: Children’s Book

For this project we had to choose one out of six provided stories and illustrate the story to be printed as a physical book. Along with this we had to create a plushie of a character from the chosen story.

Concept and Style

For my story I choose the Japanese Fairy tale “The Tongue Cut Sparrow” for my style I wanted to draw the story in a semi realistic style to cater towards children and young teens.by drawing the character with unique attributes that are unique to each other but can also be seen as living in the same world as one another. I drew the entire book traditionally by using makers and fine liner to illustrate the pages. The main colour use for this book are the three primary colours this can also be seen in the colour scheme of the characters the old man being Blue the old lady being red and the fairy being yellow.
