ILL 301.3 Wayfinding

ILL 301.3 Wayfinding
Project Brief
The purpose of this project is to introduce you to wayfinding design as part of the larger information design and environmental graphic design fields. The term ‘wayfinding’ describes how an individual orientates him/herself within an environment, and the cognitive processes used to determine and follow a route, interpret a space, and traverse from one point to the next. In other words, wayfinding helps us to navigate a space, through the process of welcoming, orientating, guiding and informing.

Design Strategy
The Flux Gallery first and foremost serves as a professional service internally for the University of Pretoria, and for society to engage with art and appreciate UP as a leader in South Africa’s art scene. The gallery continues to support academic training, research, and teaching drives, yet increasingly strives to improve, expand, and con-temporize the gallery as a greater social responsibility.
The gallery’s programming is diverse and broad in that it focuses on student-led exhibitions for artists who are still very early in their career while also featuring established national and international artists, sometimes in collaboration with one another. The gallery is home to contemporary visual art in all media, including drawing, painting, photography, sculpture, installation, performance, participatory, video, and media.
