I had the privilege of being able to photograph these magnificent creatures recently on the outskirts of Johannesburg South Africa. They are gargantuan in size (large male weighs 2.7 tons) with the most gentle eyes and demeanour. There are currently 4 Rhino on this reserve which are lovingly cared for by their ranger Theo who has to attract them into an enclosure on his farm every night for protection as one of them was poached in 2021.It is sad to hear such news as these amazing creatures are threatened with extinction largely because of some ridiculous misinformed belief that digesting the powder of the horn will enhance ones libido.I chose to omit showing the horn or their location as they have all been dehorned to hopefully poachers will not be attracted to the animals. This being said they unfortunately still poached one of them for a piece of horn which was probably 30cm in length! I truly hope that the slaughter of this incredible animal ceases soon before it is too late..which will mean that our children shall never experience the wonder of interacting with them.Kudos and respect to all the conservationists who love and protect them to the best of their ability ever single minute of every single day!
