A client commissioned me with a diver and a deep-sea creature encounter illustration.
Some illustration process insight ahead:
The composition was initially developed as a thumbnail sketch in order to provide a preview for the client. When the layout got agreed upon, I tackled the scene in the full size - starting with the creature's head to set the scale for the rest of the piece. I wanted to keep the proportions right, so the diver got inked next. Eventually I proceeded to stippling the background.
Once the illustration got scanned I vectorized it for free scaling & printing - as well as combined with lettering for future use.
Later on - I prepared a digitally colored version as well, and made some giclée prints with it.
