PARADOX
The boundary between Vice and Virtue
Paradox is an illustration project about the Seven Deadly Sins, including Wrath, Pride, Sloth, Lust, Greed, Gluttony, Envy.

I worked on the Sins in my own point of view, where I don’t believe in pure evil or pure saint. Therefore, I tried to seek for the good side of these sins.
For example, Pride makes you arrogant; but on the other side, Pride gives you motivation for further achievement.

The project is executed in Black & White inking style, in order to provoke the mystery and ancient feeling. The series of illustrations is inspired by the up-side-down world from the movie series ‘The Stranger Things’.

The highlight of this project is my design of Ambigram:
Ambigram is a type of character that when you turn it around, it still can be read the same. This characteristic represents that no matter how you look at it, it is still itself, a mixture of good and bad that cannot be distinguished.
These ambigrams are not supposed to be read at first glance, they act more as symbols. The audiences will have to use their imagination to guess, and I’ve made sure that they will get it. Because at the back of all the illustrations, I left a quote about the sin, including the name of that sin.
