Cambodian Sustainable Housing International Design Competition
held by Building Trust International 2013

The objectives of the competition was to design sustainable houses in Cambodia that promote health, safe to live in, and affordable because of its situation with flood. Hence, local renewable resources and and architectural tradition became important consideration when designing the houses. Instead of against it, the idea of living with the flood rethinks how Cambodians do their activities when flood comes based on its priority.

Spatial Arrangement and Mechanism
MODULE A

The smallest and most affordable module. This module prevents flood by its steel base and metal structure which make the shelter floats along with the rise of water level.
MODULE B

Module B is the medium one that meets more activity space requirements. It has the same flood preventing system as module A.
MODULE C

The complete module based on Cambodian traditional house with stilts to prevent highest level of flood. When the flood comes, water fills the first level so social interaction area can be moved to the second level.
