Iconic Redesign of Classic Album Cover

"You can check-out any time you like, but you can never leave"
The Eagle’s current album cover for Hotel California reflects the time period in an appropriate way, however the dated font and classic image leave much to be desired within the 21st century. My goal was to create an iconic album cover to appeal to a younger audience in the 21st century.
A word list helped identify certain moods and ideas while listenting to the album. These thoughts and ideas were then seperated into tangible and abstract categories.
The tangible and abstract concepts were then drafted out in the form of rough sketches, simply to make marks on what ideas could potentially work for a set icon (also seen below).
I was not 100% satisfied with my original sketches. As a result I continued to push different
concepts further and ideate on other absract ideas.
I used Polaroid camera film from the 70's as inspiration for my color palette as seen with these four studies.
