Write a personal story of risk and find a compelling way to express and dramatise it in the form of a hand bound, formally typeset book.
CONCEPT
My grandfather was a young man in occupied Italy during the war and was taken by the Nazi’s to a labour camp. After being put to work for two weeks he miraculously escaped and made the 200 mile journey home with no shoes, food or place to shelter.
The bound pages of the book are pockets that hold inserts. The inserts slide out of the dark photographs revealing the typeset story. This accentuates the themes of imprisonment and escape that drives the story. The words are trapped within the pages of the book, longing to escape and be read.
