Inside Out Magazine

‘Inside Out’ aims to rebel against the stereotype that skating and surfing are a 'man’s sport,' and
rather empower womxn to continue to skate and surf. 'Inside Out' is a grungy, messy, rebellious magazine with an attitude that reflects the confidence of womxn who skate and surf despite the two sports being relatively male-dominated. The magazine challenges the stereotypical roles of gender and turns it on its head, hence the magazine title ‘Inside Out’.
'Inside Out' aims to empower all womxn and therefore includes relevant feminist articles amidst the surfing and skating texts; as seen in the above two spreads that feature an article discussing the legacy and empowerment of womxn behind the catchy song "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun".
The skating article featured across the above three spreads discusses female empowerment within the 'Grl Swirl' skating community. 'Grl Swirl' is a group of female skaters that teach the youth from underserved communities the basics of skateboarding; host various group skates in order to create a safe space for female skaters of all levels, and ultimately break down the typical gender boundaries and stereotypes, specifically within the skating community.
Another common problem that womxn who skate or surf are faced with is that of safety. The surf article featured across the above two spreads discusses four of the best locations for the solo female surfer, in terms of both the type of wave and safety.
