Sun-sational Garden
Description

The Sun-sational Garden is an easy-to-use garden, specifically for herbs. Each herb has its own metal bucket, and laser cut sign that tells you what herb is in that pail. Each plant also has its own 3D printed water funnel to make it easier to water the roots of plant. To ensure you don't overwater the plant, there are holes at the bottom of the buckets so water can be emptied onto plates, which you can eventually dump out. The box is made of 2 X 4 wood planks, making it sturdy and easy to transport them if needed.
User Testing

Throughout the last week, I had four people test out my herb garden; my roommate, sister, an RA of Dana, and a friend.
My roommate helped me plant the herbs, which is something the person that uses this product must do. She found that it was overall very simple to understand and figure out what goes where. The task didn't take longer than ten minutes, which she thought was nice because it didn't make her tired or bored. One thing she wished could be different was if the signs could be more secured to the yarn, which I was able to fix pretty quickly.

My sister, Kaitlyn, was the next to try my product. She kept my garden in her room for a few days, and watered it and monitored the amount of sun it needed. She found it extremely easy to care for the plants, and asked if another sign could be added to the box, which is when I added the Genesis 1:29 sign underneath the plant names. This bible verse is ironic because the beginning says, "and God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed...," and every seed in the garden is for an herb.

An RA at Dana was the next one to use the garden. He found it quick and easy to use, and liked that he didn't have to worry about overwatering the plants. One thing he wished was that the box could be waterproof or something so you wouldn't have to worry about dumping the plates when they got full. I considered it at the beginning of my project, but this garden is an indoor one, which would cause the water to leak onto whatever surface it's placed on inside.

The last user was a friend at Berry. She only had it a few hours so she could only water the plants. During the time she held onto it, she made a few observations. She loved the aesthetics of the box and the buckets. While she was watering the plants, she thought the 3D printed funnels were a little smaller at the ends so it took a while for the water to travel through it, and ended up preferring to water it regularly. I would have loved to recreate them, but it was during the weekend so I was not able to find time to fix this problem. Other than this, she thought the rest of the caring for a garden aspect was very simple and easy to use.
