Big Box of Kindness

2021 was challenging for many people and families. Some have had it harder than others, made even tougher by not being able to gather and connect with one another. In the lead up to Christmas, Crossway LifeCare invited members across all campuses to partner with them in creating 1000 Christmas hampers that would be handed out to people and families in communities who are doing it tough across Victoria.

The idea is to encourage registered households to build a Christmas hamper, adding one item each day from early November for 24 days and as part of the fun, each household will pick up a pack with an empty box, advent calendar poster, customisable Christmas card and "Kindness Cards" as part of an advent countdown. By early December, boxes are collected and distributed to struggling households to provide for them to share a special Christmas meal.

The "Kindness Cards" were daily activities encouraging acts of kindness. A webpage was also designed to allow registration, provide information and instructions on collection and drop-off details. Social media posts provided updates and stories as the community engaged in practicing generosity and kindness in the midst of the pandemic. The entire project was also translated into Chinese, Korean and Indonesian to include the various Asian congregations at Crossway.

With everyone's help, Crossway LifeCare collected and distributed 875 Christmas hampers and blessed local networks including schools, churches supporting refugee families and other community organisations.
