The Plastic Love
Look Around
Look around, and you will see how many things such as equipment and tools we use to work or support our daily lives contain this magical material, plastic. It has almost become our partner in life, is it not? I like you to look around and identify how many plastic materials are in front of you right now.
When I took a morning stroll in Car Free Day Jakarta back in 2018, it had a morning market vibe where the hustling and bustling of crowds converged into one. You can see all kinds of things there, exceptionally lots of plastic materials being used.
Pulling The Carts
Not only the crowds who went out there that morning. Several carts filled with bags of plastics were seen that morning. There, I see a symbiosis of how this material plastic can be a livelihood for several people.

Yes it is a symbiosis. But Is it?
Look Deeper
Are we wise enough and prepared to face the consequences?
A little river or "Kali" in Glodok was filled with plastic waste.
71%
of the earth is covered by water; 97% is Saltwater which is inedible, and only 3% is freshwater. This is the situation of the little river or "Kali" in West Jakarta.
The waste officer cleans the "Kali" twice a day in the morning and afternoon. Various plastics waste, branches, and even clothes are taken out from the river every day.
Will our rivers be filled with plastic wastes?
What of our Land ?
Bantar Gebang Landfill
is infamous in Jakarta metropolitan area. With a total size of 110 hectares, this is where most of Jakartans waste ends up. In 2019, it received 7702,2 tonnes, carried by 1311 trucks daily, of which 33% of it was plastic waste.
