This infographic is the third of a series of graphics I've done through my Virtual Student Federal Service internship in collaboration with USGS Alaska Science Center and eBird. ASC Center Director M.P. John and intern student H. Nicole also assisted in the design of this graphic. The objective of this graphic is to inform the general public of the process USGS employees use when observing for bird activity and how the collected data is used by eBird.

The idea of a flowchart was set from the beginning. I initially thought of designing another entirely vectorized graphic; however, an image-composition approach sounded more practical and interesting to the group. We decided to use images from the USGS image gallery and asked permission from eBird to use one of their bird species informational maps. Images were edited in Photoshop and organized in Illustrator.

The flowchart is composed of a variety of figures that seem to be floating independently, but numbers and arrows guide our eyes through the graphic and help reading the steps in the right order.

The graphic is now on USGS website.
