This was a fun but demanding project, as it went through the stages of development. (See the complete list of requirements below.)

I chose the font AVENIR Next LT Pro out of the student font pack, because out of all the available fonts, it is the one I love the most  It is also the one I would most likely spend my own money to purchase. I love how clean and modern it looks and how well it lends itself to so many different projects!

The vision I was going for with this design was to create a modern poster, with simplified information (yet hitting all the boxes in the design brief) that would be eye catching, yet still look like it belongs on the wall of a sleek, modern office.  Nailed it, right?!!  I experimented with a lot of different color combinations, but ended up loving how the blue, orange and green combination worked.

In our BYU-I online class, we participate in discussion boards and have the opportunity to have peers review our work.  Those peer critiques and suggestions really helped me a lot as I made the final adjustments to the design. So here's a shoutout to the peers who took the extra time and effort to give helpful feedback!

One part I am particularly please about is being able to find so many well known and established companies that use the Avenir typeface for their logotypes. Because this project was intended to "promote a font by creating a printed poster to send out to professional designers" and that "the poster should show the versatility and possibility of the assigned font," I feel like having those examples was an added bonus and selling point.

And how cool are mockups?!  The one I found and used above was on freepik.com and it really took my design up to the next level!

DESIGN PRINCIPLES UTILIZED, include the following:
A well balanced, dynamic composition was achieved by using a variety of design principles. Symmentry and asymmetrical balance were employed. This was achieved by not only use of the fonts, but description boxes, colors and even shapes. (Notice the green oval in the right hand corner? That is balanced out by the partial circle “LOGOTYPE EXAMPLES” and using green for AVENIR Next LT Pro.) Emphasis was used successfully and focal points achieved by using elements such as size and color.  For example: the extra large font for the white AVENIR, and the orange box to emphasize the brief history and uses of the font. The green oval to emphasize the price, and the rounded shape for the text “LOGOTYPE EXAMPLES” brings focus to the area highlighting beautifully designed professional examples.

Design principles of Contrast and Scale were also utilized by using color and size of various elements. Isolation and spacing was used in particular for the price, and the professional logotype examples.  The use of colors and the section where the orange and dark blue fade together helped create unity and visual differences.

Repetition of the alphabet with a low opacity created interest without being too overwhelming. That also incorporated Lost and found, in addition to having the year 1988 be partially off the top of the poster. Like information was grouped together, and nice spacing was used to emphasize those groupings.

In spite of most of the composition being Asymmetrical, Alignment was used around the edges and with various groupings to give the entire composition balance and cohesion.

The use of these, and a handful of other important Design Principles were used to create a successful and beautiful composition!
