Used as a medium of communicating trends and fashion content to its readers; fashion magazines are a crucial component of fashion communication. That being said, most magazines are often published monthly and are very often in its traditional format, paper. The production of paper and publishing of fashion magazines have contributed to environmental pollution such as the chemical pollution to rivers when paper is bleached and not to mention the need for deforestation to produce paper. Printing of contents on these processed paper have also proven to be harmful to our air quality and may cause illness such as Cancer. After its purpose has been served, many magazines are often just thrown away as waste. This adds to the increasing waste pollution that we are already facing.
With that in mind, this project explores how fashion could be communicated without the use of its traditional medium and looks into the possibility of extending the purpose of a publication. While doing so, the publication would also attempt to resolve issues caused by with the use of digital platform as a medium for fashion communication.
Page Not Found is outcome of this hypothesis. The annual digital publication sets out to serve the purpose of a publication, in this case translating the year’s trends while being in a digital format allows the publication to serve not only as a reading material but also create a community for its readers. This is done by allowing readers to respond to what they have read not only through comments but also allowing them to post their own interpretation of what they perceive the trends to be. This creates a two-way communication between readers and the publication, something that the traditional publication might not be able to do.
