Alice's Adventures in Wonderland Book Covers

Project 2: Conceptual Book Cover
Here are the three versions of the book cover I made for the book "Alice's Adventures In Wonderland". In this project, we were given the task to create three book covers that did not illustrate the story. Instead, we were to use the symbolism from the story to convey a message of the book. One book cover was to be typography only. Another using something we made or created, and the last was our choice.
Typography, Handmade, Designer's Choice (left to right)

Typography Design
For the typography book cover, I took the text to form a sign pointing in multiple directions to symbolize the many choices as part of growing up and finding out who we are in this world. I used pink in shades to symbolize the change in age. Light pink for the younger Alice and hot pink for adolescence to show a progression of age.

For this book cover, I focused on the struggle Alice had with all who she encountered who admonished her thoughts and views as incorrect when they did not align with theirs.  Everywhere she went she was corrected or told how things should be, especially by those who were older or in authority.  Over time as Alice grew in size, so did her confidence to stand up to those whose ideas were not correct.  I used the crown as the ultimate symbol of the queen and king who without listening would order the beheading of anyone around them. The fist is a symbol of standing up.

For the Designer's Choice, I used a pile of keys I photographed and added a keyhole to show how there are endless opportunities all around us if we just look and proceed.  What opportunity are you going to seize today?
