The Hound of the Baskervilles: A Book Design

The purpose of this project was to design a book from the cover to the typography hierarchy within the chapters. My focus was to design a book that was easy to read and aesthetically pleasing.
I tried to keep the style of the book true to the feel of the Sherlock Holmes story. At the same time, I tried to experiment with some different concepts and ideas regarding the design of the book.
I enjoy the grayscale that made up some of the imagery both on the cover and in the table of contents. The story is a mystery with hints of potential supernatural elements, and I tried to incorporate those themes within the design. I also enjoyed using the image as a part of the table of contents; it feels like an unusual element in chapter books.
I had initially thought that using a Baskerville typeface would be both a good fit for the design of the book and a fun play on the name of the book. However, I think that Mr. Eaves XL and Mrs. Eaves XL made better choices for the design of the book. I used a larger size for the body text for better readability.
As an avid reader growing up, this is a book I would have loved to have a copy of.
