With this fantastic idea and vision Togoboat founders reached me asking for development of CMF design for future inflatable boats and help them with branding.
It quicly became clear, that the goal was to not simply produce "usual" inflatable catamarans with different colours and graphics, but to create the most comfortable and user-friendly catamarans, that can guarantee the best experience.
This way the project quicly grew from just CMF design of 2 inflatable catamarans to a complete design work, that defines every little detail's position and brings ergonomics and usability to the next level.
Process
Research
Research the field of inflatable marine products, exploring subs, boats, catamarans and other products to get familiar with the terminology, parts and details used and their purpose.
Search for common imperfections, ways for improvement and ideas for functional and visual differentiation.
Ergonomics & UX Development
Work simultaneously on a large and small catamaran versions. Define dimensions and locations of every detail.
On this stage the work is completely dettached from colors, materials and finishes.
We focus on functionality, comfort and logic.
Define overal dimensions and distribution of major elements for two models of catamarans.
Analyse ergonomics and usage scenarios. Propose new solutions that improve upon comfort and offer new possibilities.
Brand & CMF Design
After principal definition of product and it's details we switch to the definition of brand graphics, product colours, materials and finishes.
Togoboat is located in California, so the inspiration for both graphics and mood derives from the iconic Californian sunset.
For CMF design we take reference from the logotype colors due to a dynamic and fun feelings they evoke - perfect for vacations and weekends. We develop multiple CMF design proposals and go through iterative process of improvement, till colours, materials and finishes are defined competely.
Samples. Production & Testing
We create a technical presentation for a clear communication with manufacturers.Togoboat team orders first samples from the factory and the sample manufacturing starts.
When they are ready and delivered, Togoboat team tests, review and generates feedback. Overall they are happy, but there are always something to fix and improve. And we are happy to do it.
Design Refinement
Due to legal motives Calimaran goes through the change of brandname and becomes Togoboat.
New logo is developed by the Togoboat team.
We replace and reposition the logo, refine catamarans and improve remaining details. based on multiple fedbacks, that were generated from the tests and reviews of samples.
Production. E-boats in use
We update the technical presentation with the latest information. The Togoboat team orders the production of a batch of elaborated catamarans. Once they are ready and delivered to California, the Togoboat team starts enjoying them and delivering them to happy and satisfied customers.
