Marathon Runners (A Data Visualization)

Following is a Data Visualization depicting Information of Running times for 1000 Runners across 5 years.
Explanation :
Each sector of the circle shows one particular year.
The hollow circular dots represent each runner.
These dots are plotted on a x-y plan with
X axis as the time take to finish half of the marathon
Y axis as the time taken to complete the full marathon.
Digging deep for detailed information:
I chose the above concept because it shows how the runner picked up speed, was he fast in the first half or the second. If the detailed information about the speed of runner throughout the race is to be seen, one can view the average velocity graph on clicking the dot.
This spike graph has been plotted using the 100 different values of finishing the 1/100th , 2/100th, 3/100th …till 99/100th of the race example :
Following detailed information for one runner:
If the user double clicks the dot, lines get connected for his positions across the years, this way we may be able to see how the runner performed every year and compare by looking at the shape of the vertices. The subsequent slide shows implementation of this concept.
