"Treat the city with acupuncture, Towards urban-commons in Bhar Lazreg"
Abstract
The contemporary city has marked an increase in the rate of social and spatial inequality. This inequality is the consequence of urban sprawl and the changes that the city has undergone for three generations. This is followed by a loss in the quality of the territories, which has created a rupture between degraded neighborhoods and others that have become financially inaccessible.
In this perspective, this architectural thesis aims to provide alternatives through preventive thoughts and tactical experiences in order to remedy the illnesses of the city today.
This work highlights a rebalancing process inspired by traditional Chinese medicine, in particular urban acupuncture, which was applied to the “Bhar Lazreg” area in “La Marsa”; a place of crystallization of social and spatial inequality issues. Our project aims to revitalize the particular source of illnesses and activate it by transforming degraded spaces into urban commons in order to promote equality of opportunity in a shared territory.
