LIVE AND LOVE
Live and Love is a research project investigating the following techniques: Add, Subtract, Multiply, and Divide. Designers use these techniques when making images and communicating visually.

From a combined angle of love and graphic design, the project investigates the techniques: Add, subtract, multiply, and divide. Exploring new ways of creating images, and visual communication and then sharing the learning in that area.

Love is an equation. To add is to give value to another. To subtract is to take from another. To multiply is when we catch feelings and fall in love. Divide is when conflict occurs.
Love will always require a balance of time and effort from both parties. Like an equation, we always need to start with a certain amount of self-esteem. Living for and loving ourselves comes first, for love to blossom. Live and Love.

A pocketbook was designed and produced for print, along with promotional materials for social media, communicating the conclusion. The pocketbook uses curated poetry to bring readers on a journey of living and loving themselves, accompanied by specially designed collages complementing the poems.

The pocketbook makes use of typefaces, Acumin Pro, and Masqualero. With a dimension of 110mm x 170mm, consisting of 76 pages. Printed on Grandeur Zen White 105 GSM (Body) and Grandeur Zen White 300 GSM (Cover).

DESIGN RESEARCH INSIGHTS & FINDINGS
Insights and findings in graphic design principles were vital in leading the project from concept to completion. These design principles were implemented and used throughout the project.

The design principles include
1. Simplification and Abstraction of forms are a part of addition and subtraction.
2. Folding is a form of Addition or Subtraction.
3. Layout is essential in the process.
4. Colour is used in separating and differentiating elements.
5. Type can express an inner feeling, and symbolize a thought process. It’s a flexible means of expression that man has control over. You should be able to adapt the appearance of the type to suit your purpose.
CARDS DESIGNED FOR QUANTITATIVE RESEARCH
Quantitative research conducted from the angle of love involved a survey. The survey consisted of handing out custom-designed cards to young adults aged 20 - 25, questioning what love is to them. Below are the summarised findings.

Love is patience and understanding. Compromise and commitment. Love is building each other up. Unconditional. Complicated. Love is growth. Love is stressful. Tiring. Exhausting. Inconvenient. Expensive. Controlling. Overrated. Dramatic. Depressing. But somehow the feelings make it worth it. Love is inexplicable. It’s that tingly feeling in your stomach or that proud moment when you see them succeed. Love feels like you don’t even have to try, that everything you do with them feels right or meant to be. Love feels like home. A safe space where we can be ourselves. Love is a splendid thing to feel. If you experience it, you should consider yourself one of the lucky ones. Love makes people stupid. Love is something you give to yourself before sharing it with others.
IMPLEMENTATION OF RESEARCH FINDINGS
The research findings led to the conclusion below.
Love is an equation. It requires a balance of time and effort from both parties. For love to blossom. We should always live and love ourselves. Before we love others. Live and Love.
Based on the conclusion statement. With multiple iterations. A pocketbook and marketing collaterals were designed and produced.

LEARNING AND TAKEAWAYS
Design is always making decisions based on research. Through this project, I’ve picked up research skills from conducting surveys for groups of people to independent interviews. Making design decisions based on research insights, conducting design studies, and building prototypes and further iterating them. Crafting design that communicates an intended message to an audience.
