Crab Pieces

For this project, I wanted to capture the beauty of a sea animal. I thought about several animal options and ideas but I thought a more unique and meaningful animal would be the crab. I say meaningful because the crab symbolizes rebirth and renewal. I think this aligns perfectly with my story because transferring to GCU was truly a new start in my life and the people I’ve met and things I have accomplished at this university set that into stone in my life’s story. Because of those reasons, I created a crab image using Adobe Illustrator and wanted to find a way to fill in the crab while still capturing more than just the crab. Therefore, I chose to do a mosaic piece inside the crab to add to the symbolism that the crab already holds. Mosaic art is piecing together tiny parts to create a bigger image and something beautiful. So by taking the crab drawing and adding the mosaic to that, I feel as though I successfully captured the full essence I wanted it to.
