Formal Shape Posters

The Project
This assignment was to source images from our personal photo collections and then trace unique shapes out of them. Using a combination of different sized and scaled shapes we made 10 black and white compositions and out of those we made 3 final color posters.

Approach
My approach to this assignment was to use the gestalt theories we learned in class. I also liked to pick out very biomorphic shapes because I like things that are soft and sharp at the same time like a shape you would see in nature. I really liked using the gestalt theory “repetition” with the shapes, I thought it looked the most interesting and allowed the viewer’s eyes to follow along the composition well. I ended up with three posters that I am proud of.
Shapes
These are the shapes I made from my images and used to make my posters
Water Poster
My first poster is called “Water Poster,” I arranged my shapes and picked colors to almost look like some sort of body of water, I layered shapes on top of each other with the same color to create an interesting play with the background color.
Crossing Poster
My second poster is called “Crossing Poster,” I focused on the gestalt principle, continuity and also the use of warm and cool colors to contrast each other.
