The Seven Deadly Sins: But Make it Pink
For this project, I was tasked with creating a series of seven graphic compositions that communicate the seven sins. Once constructed digitally, the file was sent to The Newspaper Club to be printed as a tabloid on 55 gsm paper. I am a big fan of the color pink in all it's variations, and I wanted to bring a different approach to the sins by the application of a hue that is less associated with something as dark as the seven sins.
My Definitions:
Lust
~ sexual motivation, a sin when obsessive
Gluttony
     ~ excessive desire, a sin when over-indulgence
Greed
~ collecting of material and monetary wealth, a sin when apathetic
Sloth
~ sedentary behavior, a sin when behavior becomes lifestyle
Wrath
~ anger, a sin when it becomes rage
Envy
~ jealousy, a sin when it becomes self-pity
Pride
~ a high esteem, a sin when it becomes excessive
My Top 3 Spreads:
For this spread, we were assigned the task of creating a typographic composition that portrayed Gluttony without using the word itself. I chose to use the word 'insatiable', though my first draft used the word 'everlasting' as in the gobstopper candies. I felt that the jawbreaker concept was strong enough with the different layers of colors, and that the word 'insatiable' more accurately fit my personal definition for gluttony. This composition was primarily made in Illustrator.
For this composition, we were required to photograph a model and display in full-color. I was very inspired by the images you see on the opposing page, and used aspects of all of them to create my composition.
For this composition, we were required to display the sin of Wrath through a photographed object. This was not a found scene in my daily life, and I did construct this image with fake blood and a lot of editing with color balance in Photoshop.
