2011
A 2011 schematic design for the renovation of a bar and patio on Chicago’s Northside.
Updating the existing main entry, working with the existing classic Chicago brick storefront look. Lower the window sills of existing masonry openings to the floor. Install operable glazing such as french doors and windows to allow for a versatile indoor/outdoor space for customers.
The diagram above shows how the project is as much a part of the community, as it is a contribution to it.
In keeping with the classic Chicago bar design, the clients requested an antique wood bar for the interior of the bar.
A pavilion addition shall be added to the back of the existing 3-story brick building. New construction is made of solid exposed masonry and industrial materials like steel siding. The patio can be rented out for private parties and community gatherings.
The existing first floor bar and basement shall be renovated. The main facade renovated. The existing frame garage shall be torn down for a new patio. A 1-story rear addition shall be added. The main bar, the new pavilion, and the patio can each be separated as needed for events. Looking at incorporating sustainable features such as solid masonry walls, low maintenance steel siding, and solar powered lighting. It was very important to allow for ADA accessibility which is provided with ramps within the patio.
